Big Rock
As you drive north (or, actually, west) on Pacific Coast Highway past Topanga Canyon Boulevard, Big Rock Drive is one of the first roads leading into a Malibu neighborhood.
Named for the distinctive rock just offshore, much of the Big Rock area was formerly owned by William Randolph Hearst who sold the lower half of it to early Malibu realtor Art Jones in 1944. Many of the homes along Big Rock’s terraced roads enjoy expansive views of the ocean, islands, and the string of city lights known as the Queen’s Necklace. Beyond the Big Rock neighborhood, Big Rock Drive continues uphill along the edge of Tuna Canyon Park to Big Rock Mesa, which, with its large lots and breathtaking vistas, was Number 9 on Property Shark’s list of the 20 most expensive neighborhoods in Los Angeles for the third quarter of 2018.
